What is Storytime for Kids?
Storytime encourages people to read to their children. By downloading the Storytime app you always have a story at hand. You can easily search for a specific story or topic, or filter stories by the time you want to spend reading aloud. The Storytime app is filled with unique stories written by other (grand)parents and writers. Your story could also be published in the Storytime app! To further increase the reading experience, fun sound effects have been added to some of the stories.

On which operating systems is the Storytime app available?
The Storytime app is available for iOS (iOS 7.0 and higher) and Android (Android 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher).

Can I download the Storytime app for free?
Yes! Storytime lite is available for free. If you prefer to have an ad-free version of the app, you can download the paid Storytime app for a small fee. Please note that your provider may charge for data usage in this app.

Is the Storytime app only available in English?
No, the Storytime app is also available in Dutch. The initiative started out in The Netherlands and the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, where it’s very successful. The stories in this English Storytime for Kids app are written by native speakers and aren’t a translation of the Dutch stories.

How do I submit a story?
You can submit your story on this website. Once the story is checked and approved by the Storytime team, it will appear on the Storytime app.

How many stories can I submit?
You may submit as many stories as you want.

Is there a maximum number of words per story?
No, every story can be as long or short as you want. If it’s a very long story, you can choose to submit it as a series of stories.

Can children also submit stories?
We strive for the highest possible quality when it comes to stories and rhymes for the Storytime app. The age of the writer is not a factor when deciding if a story is suitable for the app, only the quality is.

For what ages should the story be appropriate?
Storytime focuses on children aged 2 to 12 years. When submitting your story, you can specify for what ages you think the story is appropriate.

Can I submit a series of stories?
Yes, it is possible to submit a series of stories. You can submit every part of the series separately. Make sure to include a number in every part you submit, so the Storytime team can make sure they are ordered correctly.

Will the copyrights remain mine?
Yes, all copyrights to your story remain yours only. If you want your story removed, please contact the Storytime team.

Why is my story not in the Storytime app?
After you've sent your story, the Storytime team will review it. This may take a while. Once your story has been added to the app, you will receive a notification by e-mail. It is also possible your story is not approved. For example, when the story contains coarse language. We find it very important that other readers can not take offense by stories in the Storytime app. Even if your story is not approved, you will receive an e-mail.

Can I submit a story anonymously?
Yes, that's possible. We do ask you to fill in your name and e-mail address so that the Storytime team can send you an e-mail when your story is added to the app. But if you have indicated that you wish to remain anonymous, your name will not appear in the Storytime app.

Can I also submit illustrations with my story?
Unfortunately this is not possible. At this moment the Storytime app does not support illustrations.

Can I also submit sound effects with my story?
The Storytime team adds sound effects to some stories. Because it is important that the sound effects are royalty-free and meet certain specifications, it is not possible to send us your own sound effects.

What happens to my personal information?
Personal information that you may enter when creating a reading profile in the Storytime app, is not registered. Storytime only collects technical data in order to further optimize the service.

When submitting a story on the website, you will be asked to enter your name and e-mail address. Storytime will only use this information to communicate with you. Your information will not be disclosed to others. If you have indicated that you wish to remain anonymous, your name will not appear in the Storytime app. If not, your name will be displayed. Your e-mail address will not be displayed.

Sometimes the app says “Can't connect to Storytime”. What does this mean?
The Storytime app uses a server. This server provides the app with all the stories and relevant information. It’s possible the connection with the server is not working correctly from time to time. This could be caused by a failing internet connection on your device or by a disturbance of the server. In general, disturbances of the server are of short duration. In the event of a disturbance, the Storytime team hopes you want to try again later. Are you not able to connect with the Storytime app for a longer period? Please let us know!

I spotted a spelling mistake. What can I do?
It can happen that a writer has made a spelling mistake or grammatical mistake. The Storytime team tries to remove these mistakes before we add a story to the app, but if you still notice one, please let us know! We appreciate your input.
